wants you to take note: 'It's Me Again'
-
In 2002, more than a few people debated the meaning of Tweet's red-hot
debut single, "Oops (Oh My!)." But this time she's making
her intentions crystal-clear with her new single, "Turn the
Lights Off."
"It's about being home
with someone that you're into and telling him to play some music
that might take you to a certain place," Tweet said
- "It's like, 'Turn the
lights off, let's have a toast, put the needle on the record and
let's get to know each other.' It's all about romance."
In fact, romance is the theme
of almost every song on It's Me Again, which is due in March and
has been revised considerably from the version that was planned
for release last June (see "Tweet Gets Happy With Missy's Help,
Duets With Daughter On It's Me Again"). Tweet's mentor, Missy
Elliott, wrote six songs for the LP, including "Turn the Lights
Off" and "My Man."
" 'My Man' is about having
a boyfriend whose ex keeps coming back and you have to have this
conversation with him and the girl: 'He's my man, my turf/ That's
why I come first,' " Tweet explained.
In addition to Missy, Tweet
also worked with producers like Timbaland, Kwame and Walter Milsap,
among others. And while she and Missy wrote the majority of the
album, songwriter Harold Lilly contributed "Sports, Sex &
Food."
"I think that's for real
because it's coming from a man's point of view," Tweet said
of the song. "You don't have to be a sports fanatic, but sit
down and watch a basketball game with him instead of getting mad
because he wants to watch one. Just enjoy each other with that.
"As for food, my mother
always told me the way to a man's heart is through the kitchen,"
she continued. "I don't want to touch on the sex too much because
I do believe in waiting until marriage, but this is 2005 and that
usually doesn't happen, so safe sex and things like that I will
go for. [The song is] hitting on three great points."
Tweet kept the guest appearances
to a minnium on It's Me Again with Missy, R&B soulster Rell
("Could It Be") and Tweet's daughter, Tashana ("The
Two of Us"), the major players.

Up
and coming for 2005 - Urban Mystic
- With
the year drawing to a close, I thought that for the next few weeks
I'd give you a heads up on who will be 'up and coming' (a
sort of 'look out for') for the upcoming year of 2005. There are
5 young artists that I feel will make thier presence known in the
next year and I'll start with 2 in today's edition of the musicscene
and 3 in next week's edition.
Up first is a young man by the name of Urban
Mystic who's debut set 'Ghetto
Revelations' just hit your local record store shelves
recently. The 19 yr old (whose given name is Brandon
Williams) is a native of Ft. Lauderdale Florida and has
a silky smooth sound to him that's reminiscent of a young Bobby
Womack. The young singer started out singing in his local
church where he got to horn his chops and from there knew that music
was his course in life.
'I grew up in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida, where I was born and raised, and started singing in the
church. I made my first record when I was 18, I had that on tape,
and that’s when I knew I wanted to do music. I did a couple of showcases
at 18 too, and it was at this one showcase I did in Miami, that
I got picked up by SoBe Entertainment. They signed me, and now I’m
here today' said the youngster in a recent interview. 'I loved listening
to music from people like The Temptations,
Bobby Womack, Al
Green, Marvin Gaye…
I’d listen to music like that, which is similar to the kind of music
I make today'
The singer enlisted the services
of some high profile talent in the business for his debut album.
Now signed to Divine Mills,
the producers included label owner Kay
Gee, El Debarge and
Red Spyda and collaborations
with Tag and Jackie-O.
The lead off single is 'Where were You',
a feel good, throw back tribute to soul music of the 90s. Production
is superb on this track and is one of the highlights on the set.
Be sure to look out for this multi-talented performer who's currently
on tour to promote his album. One of the 'Miami Faithful' doing
good.

Up
and coming for 2005 - Paula Campbell
-
Another
relatively unknown is singer Paula Campbell.
Paula, a native of Baltimore, Maryland began singing at a very
early age and like the fore mentioned Urban Mystic started singing
in the church.
The youngest of three children, Paula horned her craft singing
songs by Patti LaBelle, Whitney
Houston, Teena Marie,
and Stephanie Mills. in her
younger years and from there, she went on to headline school talent
shows and local productions.
With such multi-talented
origins, the stage is set for Paula to take it to the next level
and set forth to be the industry's next hottest new artist. She
did her thing in her local community by singing in numerous concerts,
new music showcases and talent competitions - winning the Baltimore
SuperFest category for Best Female Vocalist three years
in a row and most recently, Paula was one of the top eight finalists
(out of 300 contestants) in the "Baltimore
Idol" competition.
With this kind of ambition
it was just a matter of time before the singer would get noticed
and so her music career takes a turn for the bettrer with new
doors beginnning to open. Her song "Do You" was featured
on the Ford Soul Expedition music sampler - carving the
way for her to open concerts for legendary recording artists
Al Green and Ann
Nesby. She also shared the stage with newcomers Blu
Cantrell, Toni Braxton's
younger sister Tamar Braxton
and Ruff Endz.
Now signed to BlakByrd
Music, Paula Campbell is set to release her highly anticipated
debut, Who Got Next? The
album is a seductive blend of mid-tempo tracks, lush ballads
and club friendly joints to get your legs shaking to the groove.
The lead off single is 'Take You Home'
(a new take on the Lisa Lisa
and Cult Jam 80s hit) with
the sultry ballad You Make Me'
gearing as the second release.
Said label CEO Greg Baker
"Paula has the look, the talent and the drive to be the
next big name in this business - sharing the spotlight with
young contemporaries like Ashanti,
Alicia Keys, and even Beyoncé.
I'm excited about the opportunity to work with her."
A tall order for a singer
so young yet so talented and one to look out for in the upcoming
year of 2005. Keep an ear out.

Whitney
Houston crashes car into school bus
Troubled
singer Whitney Houston is in
the news again this time for crashing her car into a bus.
Miss Houston crashed her Porsche into the back of a city bus near
her
home in Alpharetta, Georgia, December 15th. According to
the Associated Press, no one
was injured, but the accident caused some
slight damage to the bus and crushed the bumper of Houston's sports
car.
The incident happened when Houston was trying to make a left turn
and misjudged the clearance between her car and the bus. She was
given a citation for failure to yield while entering a roadway,
which is a low-level moving violation in Georgia, and she'll most
likely have to pay a fine.
Houston and her husband Bobby Brown live about 25 miles north of
Atlanta. Houston will appear in Brown's upcoming Bravo reality series
Being Bobby Brown, which should debut late next year..
