Gerald
Levert will not face charges of assault
-
R&B singer Gerald Levert
will not face charges for assault on two patrolmen in Cleveland
a week ago due to lack of evidence it was reported last week. Prosecutor
Anthony Jordan said in a statement
that ''there was no evidence the singer caused serious physical
harm to patrolmen Ronald W. Ross
and Daniel Lentz''.
The confrontation with the officers happened in Cleveland on Friday
March 4th when Levert and a friend intervened when they saw the
policemen stopping a friend of his for speeding. The officers Patrolmen
Ronald W. Ross and Daniel
Lentz said that they had hurt their wrist and shoulder
respectively in the confrontation that saw Levert get cited for
driving under the influence and inpeding the flow of traffic.
"If these officers were assaulted and injured as a result of
that assault, there should have been a charge of assault on a police
officer, a felony," said Bob Beck,
president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association.
Austin, 27, is charged with felonious assault for allegedly punching
Lentz in the face.
