Michael Jackson's tribute an all star
event
Fans
of Michael
Jackson was treated to a stellar all star line up for the tribute of the
king of pop's 30-year career as solo artist at the Madison Square Garden
this past Friday (Sept 7th). The concert the first of two shows at the
Garden -- marked Michael's first live performance on U.S. soil in more than
a decade and during that time he's seen his once-dominant presence on the
American music scene almost disappear.
The night's lineup included the likes of Britney
Spears, Gloria
Estaban, Destiny's
Child, Ray
Charles, Al
Jarreau, Cassandra
Wilson and Liza
Minnelli. Michael
himself later took to the stage as he re-united with his brothers in their
1st appearance together in 17 years much to the fan's delight as they belted
out the classic hits from yesteryear. All round the night was a night that
most will not forget including the man himself.

MTV -
20yrs old and counting
Aug
1st 1981 is not a national holiday nor is it my birthday but its a significant
date because it's the day that the MTV network aired it's 1st music video
appropriately called "Video Killed the Radio Star," by the British
band The Buggles. Since then we have come to know MTV like a sibling as part
the family as it has become a way of life the baby boomers of the 80's and
the icons of the teenagers of the 90's.
Give
props where props is due no one thought MTV would be around 20 yrs later as
most thought the same fate for rap music but both are here and are
here to stay. Over the years the format has changed somewhat as the first
few years saw more music videos and less show shows but nowadays it seems
that it's reversed with more shows and less videos. Not that that is a bad
thing as most can relate to the hosts of their favourite shows that includes
Ananda Lewis and Carson Daly so congrats to MTV and their milestone truly
worthy of it.

Soul
24-7.com releases first compilation set..
One
of my favourite internet radio stations Soul 24-7.com has put together a
collection of sultry soul tracks on one compilation called 24-7
Definitives, Definitely Soul24-7 -
"British Soul"
The
set is available
for purchase only on the super station so far (to date anyway) but the music
is the cream of the crop in British soul music. British
Soul is the first release that's
been put together by all the jocks on the station including Alex
James,
Ray Hayden and The
SourMash Collective. On the disc, featured tracks include Snowboy's
rendition of Leroy Hutson's Lucky
Fellow, Maysa
Leak, and Martine Girault to
name but a few. I dare you not to get a copy of
this disc it will be played frequent and often on my show.

Wyclef
Jean's father dies in a freak accident.
Wyclef
Jean's father Rev. Gesner Jean died last week after he was pinned
between his garage door and one of his son's cars in what South Orange, N.J
police said to believe "was a bizarre accident",
Mr. Jean, age 60, a Newark minister, suffered severe chest injuries and died
at a local hospital last Monday night (Sept 3rd). Police believe he may have
been sitting in the driver's seat of the 1991 Bentley and that the car moved
forward somehow after he got up and stepped in front of it.
Police are
still investigating the cause of the accident but said that the car was not
malfunctioning and they have found no evidence of foul play.
