Busta signs with Clive
Davis's new label 'J Records'
After
a 10 year partnership which began as part of the now defunct rap group Leader
of the New School and as a solo artist Busta Rhymes have parted
company with Elektra
Records. It has
been rumored for some time now that Busta (whose given name is Trevor
Smith) was leaving Elektra due to the direction the label wanted to take
regarding the artist's music.
Said
Busta to Billboard Bulletin "I felt like with Elektra, we've grown to a
point where we had to make some changes so we both could reach the level that
we're both trying to get to, they're trying to do certain things to grow their
establishment as a big, major corporate machine, and so am I." Busta will
also produce and will distribute his Flipmode Entertainment imprint, which
includes Rah Digga and the
Flipmode Squad
.
Eric Benet returns
with new single 'Love don't love me'
Rising
soul sensation Eric Benet
returns to the spotlight with a new single
called 'Love don't love me' taken from the forthcoming movie
soundtrack 'The Brothers'. Eric who scored
top ten hits with the
remake of Toto's 'Gorgy Porgy' and the wedding influenced 'Spend
my life with you' featuring Tamia has just put the finishing touched
on the yet to be titled album. The inside track on the new set is that
this could be his best yet and to me quite frankly that says a lot 'cos 'A
day in the Life' would be very hard to surpass
The album has a tentative street date for mid May so do keep your eye
open for it I'm sure it will be a dandy
India Arie's debut
'Acoustic Soul' set for release in March
She
first came to our attention last year on the soundtrack to the Spike Lee film
Bamboozled
with the delightful track 'In my head'. The Atlanta based singer/songwriter now has her debut
album 'Acoustic Soul' set for release Mar 27th and is poised and ready to take on the world. The album (which also
had featured snippets on the
Bamboozled
soundtrack) is a true collaboration of modern soul
music and acoustic strings and I am certainly looking forward to getting this one so I can play it
frequent and often on my internet radio show.
Her next single 'Video'
goes for adds this week and so far has seen favorable results across the board
which is a good indication for the talented songstress to have a strong showing
on the charts.

Chico is gaining
momentum with latest effort 'Playa Hater'
Chico's
latest release the grinding move slow track 'Playa
Hater' has steadily been gaining momentum on the charts after its 2nd
month in release. The song is taken from the soundtrack Bait starring
comedian Jamie Foxx
talks about the lengths a man should go to
please their significant other and shows no remorse in doing so.
Chico is currently
taking some well deserved time off before going back into the studios to
record his new set which promises to be 'better than the last hopefully' as he
would put it. I am sure that we'll all agree that no matter what he puts out
he'll be a hit regardless.
