Aaliyah's
parents sues the Virgin record label
Aaliyah's
(full name: Aaliyah Haughton)
parents has filed suit against Virgin Records on May 13, alleging that
negligence and recklessness caused the plane crash last year that killed
their 22-year-old daughter. The lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles Superior
Court on behalf of Diane
and Michael Haughton,
also named as defendants several video production companies and Blackhawk
International Airways, the company that
operated the plane that crashed.
Aaliyah had been in the Bahamas to film a video and was returning to
Florida on a charter flight last August when the plane crashed on takeoff.
All nine people aboard the Cessna 402-B aircraft died. Investigators said
the twin-engine plane was at least 700 pounds overweight.
The Haughtons allege in their lawsuit that a "dangerous and unsafe
configuration" of the Cessna caused the crash. The families of two
other crash victims filed similar lawsuits yesterday.

Dionne
Warwick is arrested for drug possession
Legendary
soul singer Dionne Warwick was arrested and charged with possession of
marijuana on May 12 at Miami International Airport after baggage screeners
allegedly found 11 marijuana cigarettes inside her lipstick case, according
to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The 61-year-old GRAMMY® Award winning singer was attempting to board a
flight from Miami to Los Angeles when the lipstick case was allegedly
discovered in her carry-on bag. Warwick was charged with possession of less
than five grams of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and signed an affidavit
promising to appear in court on the charges on an unspecified date.
Warwick faces up to a year in prison if convicted. Coincidentally, arrests
of this nature are not uncommon in the Warwick family. Singer Whitney
Houston, a cousin of Warwick's, was arrested on similar charges at Kailua-Kona,
Hawaii's Kona International Airport in 20, those charges were later dropped.
