Singer
Al Jarreau undergoes emergency surgery
- Legendary
jazz/soul singer Al
Jarreau underwent emergency
back surgery last Wednesday Sept 12th after he complained of pain in
his back and arms. The veteran vocalist underwent the procedure at Los
Angeles' USC Medical

compression on his spinal cord.
Mr. Jarreau explained on his official website www.aljarreau.com
'This became urgent as I was not only experiencing a lot of pain in my

worsened over the last eight weeks,'. He further detailed that
diagnostics indicated the surgery was needed to relieve "a
compression on the spinal cord between number 7-cervical vertebrae and

A statement issued from his label, GRP
Records, noted that
Jarreau's surgeon described the operation as a common procedure, and

He recently explained why he parted ways with
DreamWorks Records: 'Well, I left DreamWorks because...they're wack, you
know what I mean? I'm just a straight shooter, man, so you know, that's
the real reason I left, 'cause they wack, man. They don't know what to do
with R&B music and I ain't got time to sit there for them to figure it
out, you know
what I mean? So that being said, I had to go somewhere else.' The lead off
