New Lewis Taylor set due this month

Low key grooner Lewis Taylor is back with a new set that should hits record shelves next week. The Alabama born native who now calls London home is hailed as the 'White Marvin Gaye' of our time. He gave a live private performance to the industry elite at the Noble Rot in London's Mayfair last August to outstanding reviews.

The new 11 song set called 'Stoned Pt. 1' comes on his own label 2 years after his breakout sophomore set 'Lewis II' and will be available exclusively through the English Record shops giant HMV as well as on line at www.hmv.co.uk. The lead off single 'Positively Beautiful' has been getting major play across the internet on Soul24-7.com among other stations. Still can't understand why Island Records UK dropped this mutil-talented artist (something to do with poor record sales). Well he's doing it on his own terms this time around and that's the way it should be.

Track Listing

1. Stoned Part 1
2. Positively Beautiful
3. Lewis IV
4. Send Me An Angel
5. Til the Morning Light
6. Shame
7. When Will I Ever Learn (part 1)
8. Lovin' U More
9. From the Day We Met (part 2)
10. Lovelight
11. Sheneverdid

James Brown being sued by daughters

It seems to be a theme that's going around at the moment, someone famous gets sued by their family. Last week it was Whitey Houston's Dad's company and now its 'the hardest working man in show business' James Brown. The Godfather of soul is being sued by his two daughters, Deanna Brown Thomas and Dr. Yamma Brown Lumar for unpaid songwriter royalties.

The two women, who were young children at the time when the songs in question were written, allege that their father has not paid them the money said to be due to them because of a family grudge - Deanna apparently had her father committed to a psychiatric hospital to be treated for addiction to painkillers way back when. The lawsuit also alleges breach of contract, negligence, and racketeering. Brown's ex-wife Diedre Jenkins also owns partial copyright to the songs and ccording to the lawsuit, Brown has allowed only Jenkins to receive her share of the royalties. What a tangled web we weave eh. Keep you posted on this one

D'Angelo, SAde, Bilal and more featured on new AIDS benefit CD

D'Angelo, Sade, Bilal and a host of other famous artists lend their vocal talents and instrumentation to the 14th installment in the 'Red Hot & ...' series albums. The latest release called 'Red Hot & Riot' has just been released through Universal Records and this time around the aim of the CD/record is to raise awareness and funds for the terrible situation of the AIDs virus in Africa.

The musical message throughout the set is a celebration to the music and spirit of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Soul stars featured on the album include Macy Gray, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Common and Nile Rodgers (of Chic fame). Musicians include Roy Hargrove, Pino Palladino, James Poyser, Money Mark and a host pf great African musicians, including Fela's son Femi Kuti, Manu Dibango, Cheikh Lo and Positive Black. Check out the track with D'Angelo and Macy Gray 'Water No Get Enemy' done originally by Fela. You can find out more about the Red Hot and...series by going to the label website (click on image to take you there).

Cunnie offers you 'Night time in Paris'

French soul maestro Cunnie Williams, the voice behind the 1999 house anthems 'Saturday' and 'Spirit' returns with a brand new more soulful album in 'Night Time in Paris' - a 15 song set that's filled with dance floor fillers and melodiac soulful grooves.

Cunnie's voice is very similiar to a young Barry White in style and baritone and highlights on the set includes 'Love Or Drug', 'Hold On' (a gospel number), 'Our Game' and 'Everything I Do' which is a more modern soul oriented dance track. The most radio friendly track I would have to say is 'Come Back To Me' with its throw back on the mid 70s Love Unlimited Orchestra soul flavour. One not to be overlooked I think.
