You may not
know his name yet but believe me when I tell you this, you will,
you will. Dwele (who's birth
name is Andwele Gardner) is
a soul singer superstar in the making. Having supplied the voice
behind Slum Village's latest
smash hit 'Tainted, Dwele
is set to put out this debut release 'Rize'
(again). Said Dwele 'I
put together a cassette of mostly vocal-based tracks -- just to
see how people would take to it -- which became my Rize
tape. I had 100 copies made, and they sold out in a week. That
was back in 98, so it's pretty crazy that people are still discussing
that tape on the Internet now.'
This talented
singer/songwriter/producer/composer who was born, raised and calls
Detroit his home has created a superb album, a glimpse in to the
future of what modern soul music will be - this from an album
that he made in 98 and tracks on there that more than rival any
neo-soul act of today. Songs like A.N.G.E.L,
No Doubt, Too
Fly and Melodies
are truly classic modern soul at it's very best - smooth, rich
deep like undertones based with the introduction of synths and
strings throughout is evident everywhere (and again this was made
4 yrs ago my friends when the neo-soul movement was basically
taking shape in the likes of D'Angelo,
Erykah Badu and Maxwell
coming full circle).
This album
is destined to be a classic in my eyes and should be in yours
too, it's one that definitely holds a slot inyour current playlist.
Be on the look out for this one it's going to be huge (mark my
words). Another
TY-D Pick
indeed.
