It seems that whomever is from
Philadelphia can't seem to miss nowadays. Prime example is newcomers
Kindred - The Family Soul. The
husband and wife team of Fatin Dantzler
and Aja Graydon (the
latest act to head out of the Hidden Beach stable) has been
setting the radio station phone lines across the land a fire with
their underground smash 'Rhythm of Life'.
Philadelphia, the city
of 'Brotherly Love' (as it's now to most), has been the mecca
to such acclaimed R&B/soul singers and producers such as Gamble
& Huff, Teddy
Pendergrass, The Roots
as well as newcomers Bilal,
Aaries and the Aretha Franklin of the new generation
Jill Scott and now you can add
Kindred to the already impressive
list as they prepare to take their place alongside the best of them.
The single I'm reviewing 'Rhythm of Life',
has been floating about for around a year now on the underground circuit
but never caught on at mainstram radio but that's about to change.
Taken from 'Surrender to Love'
(their debut set), this soothing and modern soul groover has the perfect
heritage of soul, gospel and R&B going for it, with some jazz
overtones thrown in for good measure. Starting off with a misty set
of strings and keys, it moves into an infectous groove and Aja's sweet
voice delivers as she then caresses the lyircs ever so gently.
Their debut album took almost
2 years to complete and finds it's way to record shelves come March
25th. There's been plenty of buzz and excitement generated from this
album and can only wait to hear what the entire package has to offer.
Definitely one to get
- another
TY-D Pick
indeed.
