Now at a time when the soul arena
for the female vocalist seems to be fully loaded with upcoming talents
like Alicia Keys, Ledisi,
Vivian Green, Ursula
Rucker and Lizz Wright
to name but a few, a new voice enters the fold and at first listen
one would think this gal was black but to my surprise, Natalie
Williams is a twenty something caucasian who's lighting
up the UK soulscene with with her debut album ‘Yours
Truly’.
The singer/songwriter brings
a strong soulful presence and some jazzy awareness to the album with
songs that showcase her borh her vocal range and song styles. An array
of genders are represented on the album from Pop
to Soul to House.
The lead off single and title
track, ‘Yours Truly’ introduces
you to who Natalie is (literally), a fun loving, inspiring gal that's
full of life as is the track itself. Contempory R&B mixed with
an urban vibe make you stand up and take notice. 'Fool
for you' offers you music of the house variety with a solid
bassline dominating throughout, 'Got it Bad'
is a mid tempo groove that sees Natalie coming to terms about lost
love and ‘Something in my pocket’
is on of my favourites - a smooth ballad that's got radio play written
all over it.
Born and raised in Berlin, the
stunningly beautiful, British-Hungarian Natalie recognised early on
that her path would be carved in music with the major influence of
her father (who was a heavy poet and jazz fanatic) who introduced
her to music at a very early age. After High School, Natalie was accepted
to the prestigious Guildhall School of Music
in London, England and mastered the art of jazz vocalist there.
The full length should be in
stores now so you might want to look out for it. If you're looking
for some fresh and wholesome soul and R&B then Natalie is for
you. A TY-D Pick indeed

Truly '
