Only gets better - Jimmy Sommers Jimmy Sommers ft: Rahsaan Patterson - What I am gonna do (Higher Octave)

Jimmy Sommers has been making a serious impression in the Jazz arena ever since his debut set 'James Cafe' in 1998 that gave us the excellent tracks 'Stay awhile' featuring Eric Benet and his lovely remindition of Bonnie Raitts classic 'Can't make you love me'. Now with 2 albums under his belt (James Cafe and 360 Urban Groove) said Jimmy, "The concept, if you want to call it that, is simple, I love music…and I love life"

Which leads us to his third album entitled appropiately enough 'LoveLife' and the single reviewed here 'What am I gonna do?'. In past ventures, he's worked with some of the best R&B talent in the indusytry from Eric Benet to Les Nudians and sees no reason to change that. One of the top singer/songwiter and all round performer of the modern soul era Rahsaan Patterson is on hand this time as he give the song that exquisitely soulful touch with that smooth baritone of his. Jimmy's playing is beautifully layered throughout adding rich texture and suave to the track. No doubt one of the highlights of the album (in my eyes).

A modest man in much respect, Jimmy's ambition to be a trumpeter started at an early age (age 10 to be precise) and made his 1st professional recording with the MacArthur Junior High School Jazz Band. At the age of 16 he was playing sessions with the likes of Buddy Guy and now is well on his way to being one of today's finest jazz musicians.'

The album is in record shops now so I'd suggest going to your local store and pick up a copy you won't be disappointed. A TY-D pick indeed.
